Geology & Hydrology

Wind turbines need surprisingly small ground works - only a 2m deep concrete foundation about 18m in diameter is used to bolt the turbine onto. Wind turbines therefore rarely have any impact on ground stability.

The Newton Down site is not located above any known underground works which may be cause for instability. The wind turbines will be located a sufficient distance from the Cornelly Quarry to avoid any disturbance.

There are no significant hydrological features on the site - rivers, ponds, etc. A geological and hydrological study of the site is being conducted as part of the environmental impact assessment.
