Good access to the site is required for the delivery of the wind turbines and the construction materials. Some remote windfarm sites require the construction of many miles of access road with the associated impacts on the surrounding environment. The Newton Down site is only a short and direct distance from the M4 motorway. The route: • avoids passing through any villages or other built up areas, minimising disturbance to residents.
• uses mainly major roads - motorways, dual carriageways, etc.,
with less impact on other road users and reducing traffic works.
On site the existing tracks for the old airfield are a major benefit. This significantly reduces the need for new tracks and hence stone deliveries and associated lorry movements. It also significantly reduces any environmental impact on the fields.
The site is also adjacent to neighbouring quarry and cement works, providing
the opportunity, subject to technical and commercial satisfaction, to
source materials close to the site reducing lorry movements. |
