Environmental
Qualities
The
site has many positive characteristics making it a really good site
for a windfarm. These are summarised below with more detail in the Environmental
Issues section.
• Lack of interference with aviation.
• Lack of interference with communication links.
• Lack of interference with TV reception.
• No archaeological features on site
• Lack of hydrological or geological features to conflict with.
• Ecological footprint of windfarm significantly reduced by use
of existing old airfield tracks and infrastructure.
• Excellent construction access avoiding built up areas and with
close-by motorway access.
• Construction traffic reduced by neighbouring potential cement
and stone sources
• Location outside landscape protection areas and set back from
coastal fringe.
• Local landscape has existing built structures – hangers,
communication towers, etc.
• Visual impact reduced by small number of turbines, shielding
local topography, woodlands and hedges
• Avoidance of cumulative impact with other windfarms by separation
of over 10km
• Noise thresholds easily maintained by separation from local
housing and small number of turbines.
• Separation from housing to avoid any significant shadow flicker
from a wind turbine
• Potential to support neighbouring industrial electricity consumers
by discounted direct electricity supply
• Site has no amenity use at present being private land without
any public rights of way
• Potential to be a tourist attraction as one of the easiest access
windfarm sites in Wales with close-by motorway junction and easy access
right up to the site.
• Existing capacity to connect the windfarm to the local electricity
network exists. The connection point is only 1.6 km away limiting the
need for long new overhead lines.
